University student in Toronto, though I live in suburban Oakville at present.  My first recumbent was a Vision R40, which I rode joyfully for two years before trading up to a Rans Stratus.  I also have a 7-speed Birdy which is a great help on days when I take the train into the city -- I do my best to travel only by human power or public transit.  Most of my cycling is simply a matter of getting where I need to go, although I do find time for a few day rides in the summer and I would love to do some longer trips.  My girlfriend Leisha is a more recent recumbent convert, now riding a Rans Tailwind.  We dream of riding great distances together on a Greenspeed tandem trike some day.

BikeE All Round

Rear suspension is my choice - it easily gets me over curbs without getting off, and is smooth on rough terrain with a great degree of control. I race mountain bikes as a hobby. I'm 36, a self-employed designer/illustrator, Mac and PC user. I live in Don Mills.

Rans V-Rex, Dawes
Professional Retiree. After 40 years in the aerospace industry, now firmly earthbound. Residence: Tottenham, New Tecumseth. Pastimes (in addition to HPVSO): Ontario Masters Cycle Association (Member and Tour Organiser); Hiking; Dufferin Hi-Land Bruce Trail Club (Publicity Director and Hike Leader); kayaking (started this year); Boat (Walden Vista Expedition); gardening (somewhat reluctantly at times, but unavoidable); Voluntary Quality Control Checker for Creemore Ale (and several others - never reluctantly!). Bicycles: after two years happy BikeEing, but lustfully leering at high performance Rans V-Rex or similar, the constant rear view of all those big sternwheelers at touring@north finally seduced me. Rans V-Rex owner as of July 14th '98; plus Bianchi Vittoria road racer and Shogun "Prairie Breaker Team Issue" mountain bike.

BikeE Road E
Born in 1946, and lived in Toronto since 1964. I got back into serious cycling around 1993, began commuting to work downtown, and participated in a few longer rides. Before long, I realised how downright unfriendly those upright bikes can be to the human anatomy. Introduced by a friend to recumbent bikes, I eventually bought the BikeE Road E with air suspension last summer in June 1998, and have been so happy with it I can't imagine ever switching - though a bent tandem might be interesting. Currently planning some longer tours for 2000, and hope to be part of a 24-hr endurance team next summer. In my spare time (i.e., when not cycling) I'm a project management consultant in telecommunications and computer networks. As such, I have participated in three Y2K programs over the past two years; also teach a few courses at Ryerson in the same areas.
Updated 2004 Steve Briggs steve@stevebriggs.com Website Vision R-40
Age: 39. Weight: 230 lbs. Height: 5'11". Most significant bike accomplishments: first metric century July '98, first 200K rando ride May 2003. Wish List: Low racer, tadpole trike. I'm an optometrist living in Owen Sound (just under the elephant's tail on the map of southern Ontario.) Mostly I use the bent for commuting (17K each way.) My goal for 2004 is to do 4 200K rides with the Randonneurs Ontario. And a bike tour of some exotic country would be nice too..

Bentech SWB
Location: Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Age: 50. Occupation: forester. Most significant accomplishment: 1,200km trip down the Baja Peninsula in February, 1998. In March, 1997, I ordered a set of blueprints for the Bentech SWB, and finished building it in mid-April. I have about 1,300 kms. logged so far including one 210 km weekend camping trip pulling a BOB trailer. My goals are to ride from Vancouver to Sault Ste Marie, and to save enough for an Easy Racer or a Stratus.
